THE XPO TALENT SEARCH - Performers wanted!!
 |
After the success of the (educational) entertainment at 2007's Xpo at the Barbican, organisers want to step it up a notch for 2008 with some new talent with interesting acts that steer away from the almost pure burlesque line-up of last year.
The only rules are no fire, no blood and no animals, and the act must have some sort of educational quality.
If you have or are part of an act that you feel fits the bill – this could be anything from magicians and escapologists to contortionists and acrobats, or something that we haven't managed to think of yet – then contact talent@thexpo.co.uk with a description, photos and/or video if you have it and contact details.
*Please note, there is no standard performers' fee but all acts will be promoted heavily through the Xpo website and in all press previews until the show. There will be press attending the show and also The Last Stand press event where performers are invited to mingle and promote themselves. Post-show opportunities will also be available in the form of reviews, galleries and video showcases.
Acts selected must be available for the weekend of the 3rd & 4th October.
Part of the London Fetish Weekend:

NOVEMBER UPDATE
 |
Apologies for the slightly late update... Halloween was a busy period for us!
Cool member news of the week:
Dark Arts model Lenore is currently to be found on the cover of TOTAL TATTOO Magazine (December issue). She is also interviewed inside the mag alongside some fantastic pictures by Doralba Picerno.
This month's banner features some of my own Dark Arts photography.
Featuring model Kandy Kane the images are from a group shoot featuring only tattooed Dark Arts models for a project on body art. Unfortunately no 2008 calendar featuring the images will be produced now (I've got my hands full as a full-time degree student!) - but we WILL be concentrating on shooting more tattooed models during 2008. We're planning something very special for a 2009 calendar instead!

We are keen to keep the banner project running - so if you are a photographer or artist and would like to see your work featured on the Dark Arts site banner for a month, please keep your submissions coming! (Banner images MUST feature models or performers from Dark Arts too!)

DARK ARTS IS SIX MONTHS OLD!
 |
To celebrate the six month anniversary of the site; all new (successful) applications will not be required to pay the one-off registration fee this week!! This offer ends on the 1st of May!!
To take advantage, applicants should fill out their details as normal on the Apply page.
I'd like to thank ALL our members for helping to make Dark Arts so big in just a few short months. We've already got a great little forum community and I look forward to imminent member meetups over the coming months!
I never wanted to make my living from the site and don’t expect to. The fact that site members are receiving a brilliant service at the lowest possible cost to themselves is reward enough… and it’s always great to see the results of bookings arranged through Dark Arts too!
Here's hoping for many more future projects and bookings for everyone!! :)

US band The Dresden Dolls (www.dresdendolls.com) will be embarking on a UK tour in May. Dresden Dolls shows have a tradition of performance artists volunteering to perform for the crowds at their shows. This has taken the guise of The Brigade.
For the UK tour a variety of Dark Arts performers will be joining the band to perform before, between, and after the bands.
Manchester club night IMPLANT returns on Friday March 31st @ The Zoo. This night will feature a number of Dark Arts performers dancing on the podiums.
Plus live sets from: MONO NO AWARE (Hands) with support TriaX (infeKted sound)
A must for industrial noise and experimental electonica fans!!

PRO-JEKT MUSIC VIDEO
 |
Dark gothic band Pro-jekt have just concluded shooting for their latest music video. Described as a "spanking slow-motion" cover of ABBA's classic "S.O.S", the video was shot in the depths of Hampshire.
Filmed and directed by David Kenny of Shashmedia, the video also featured our very own model/performer Ereshkigal.
Our thanks go out to all the members of Pro-jekt, Shashmedia and of course Ereshkigal for a job well done.
Although it rained on the day she endured the cold, and applied the band's makeup as well as her own! A real trooper on all accounts.
See the Events page for images from the shoot!

DARK ARTS IS ONE MONTH OLD!
 |
Our first month comes to an end and the site has proven more popular than we could have hoped. Over 200 members and we are already averaging 20,000 hits each week!
Because of the sheer volume of work this has created for Dark Arts staff, new members will now be required to pay a one-off registration fee of £10 when applying for a Dark Arts profile. This is purely to cover our running costs and for the initial set up of your profile on the site - we do not charge any ongoing subscription fees or ask for commission on bookings, and this does not affect our status as a non-profit organisation.
Existing members need not worry; you are not required to pay anything! Applicants who wish to list SOLELY as extras or stylists will not be asked to pay either.
We hope this will reduce the number of time-wasters applying, and help to ensure we attract professional members with a serious desire to seek work.

ADDITIONAL PROFILES
 |
It is now possible for Dark Arts members to list multiple profiles. You can manage the profile information and images with your existing username and password (no need for separate accounts!) - There’s now a ‘switch profile’ function for swapping between your profiles.
If any of you require any additional profiles please let us know which category and what display name you would like (display names need not be the same for all your profiles), and we’ll arrange it for you as soon as possible!
Our forum is now live and the messaging system will be added very soon – we want Dark Arts to be a tool for finding others to collaborate with, as much as a service for finding you work.
In the meantime if any of you are interested in working with other members, please feel free to use the booking form or email us directly.

DARK ARTS GOES LIVE!
 |
Dark Arts officially launches today! Thanks to all of you who have applied to list on the site so far, we wouldn't be here without you.
With all new projects of this kind; things might not run as smoothly as we hope during our early days - please help us by posting in the forum or email bugs@darkarts.org.uk if you spot any problems or have technical difficulties.
The site is still very much a work in progress - not all our current members are yet visible and will gradually be added to the site this week. The forum and messaging system are to be added shortly. We are also currently working on enabling our main feature which will allow members to list multiple profiles under the same username and link them to each other.
The shop is currently on hold for a few months whilst we work on other areas of the site. Once complete, we'll be offering a small selection of Dark Arts merchandise, and possibly a print selling service for some of our listed artists and photographers.
See the events page for articles on recent nights Dark Arts has been involved with, and for information on upcoming events of interest. More to be added very soon!

If you can help us out, please let us know!
Our thanks to those of you who have already helped us by distributing stickers in Birmingham, Brighton, Cheltenham, Croydon, Edinburgh, Huddersfield, Keele, Leeds, Leicester, London, Manchester, Nottingham, Preston, Surrey, and even Jersey! You Know who you are!!
